UPRIGHT PIANO

The word “piano” is a diminutive form of the Italian “piano” and literally means “a little piano”. The name “piano” has assimilated into Russian. Early designs of vertical pianofortes are a thing of the past, but the interest the masters experienced in the development of the basic idea embodied in them did not fade. It seemed that everything in the early instruments looked unsatisfactory. The body and the deck warped even after a short use. The height of pitch “slid down”, the blow of the hammer on the strings was weak, providing only a thin, rattling, timbre-less sound... Nevertheless, it is safe to say that, starting from the 1820s and until the 1950s, no modification of the piano other than the vertical one was exposed to so many changes and experiments. As a result, almost all of the listed design deficiencies were eliminated or reduced to a minimum...
